Lisa McCarthy
Hi! I’m Lisa
I’m a Newfoundlander born and bred. After spending 4 years at Memorial University completing my Kinesiology degree, I quickly found a home away from home here in Nova Scotia during my Physio degree at Dalhousie University.
I grew up playing soccer and volleyball and found my passion for physiotherapy as well as working with teams and athletes. I’ve also taken quite an interest in sport physiotherapy working at a number of major events with athletes of all ages and levels (hockey, basketball, rugby, cheerleading, soccer, and tennis). Because of my passion, I have obtained my Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy. I am now a member of an elite group within Atlantic Canada that holds this certification.
Away from the clinic, I spend most of my free time working with teams and providing event coverage. I am currently the team Physiotherapist for the Halifax Western Capitals U18 AAA Female hockey team and a veteran volunteer with Hockey Nova Scotia's High-Performance Program. You may have also seen me sitting on the bench with the Halifax Hurricanes Basketball team (pre-Covid). When not at the office (or the rink), I enjoy spending my free time outdoors hiking, camping or kayaking.
In addition to my Bachelor of Kinesiology (Honours) and Master of Science in Physiotherapy, I’m continuing to further my skills in manual therapy, pain management, exercise prescription, Functional Dry Needling (Levels 1 and 2) and concussion management. I’m also studying to finish and complete the sport designation to obtain my Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy!
