Drainage Precedes Supply
When looking at the human body one could make the argument that we are more hydraulic than we are mechanical. Our bodies are 60% water and 40% muscle. We have major systems in the body that are essentially pipes with fluid running through them. Whether it’s the circulatory, lymphatic or the nervous system we are basically moving pressurized fluids through our body.
We have twice as many veins as we do arteries. This highlights a crucial design feature of the human body. Drainage precedes supply. Meaning it is more important to prioritize the removal of waste over the delivery of nutrients.
Putting this into context, if someone comes to me with pain and/or chronic inflammation. My first strategy is to get the client started on little habits that help with drainage. Learning how to decongest the system in a specific area. Things we often lean on for help are compression, aerobic exercise, elevation, grounding, hydration, breath work, mobility work, muscle relaxation techniques, and strength-based exercise.
